The Lead Food Service Worker supports the Culinary Manager and culinary team by overseeing and participating in meal service, maintaining a clean and organized dining environment, and ensuring high standards of food safety and sanitation. This role enhances the dining experience for elder adults in a Senior Living community, requiring professionalism, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year in food service, hospitality, or a related setting (senior living or healthcare preferred).
  • Must obtain and maintain a Food Handler’s Certification and/or ServSafe Certification (or be willing to acquire upon hire; state-specific).
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, handling, and sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to manage meal preparation while ensuring efficiency and compliance.
  • Proficiency in inventory management, portion control, and meal ticket systems.
  • Effective leadership and teamwork skills to oversee food service operations.
  • Strong computer skills in operating dietary programs and meal tracking systems.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Perform physical tasks such as bending, pulling, and reaching.
  • Adhere to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as needed.
  • Availability for early morning, midday, and evening shifts.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment while maintaining quality.
  • Strong attendance and reliability to ensure consistent meal service for residents.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a kitchen or dining environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of meal ticket systems, dietary regulations, and food preparation best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist with meal preparation, ensuring food is plated attractively and appropriately.
  • Manage and execute meal ticket processing, ensuring proper identification and accuracy.
  • Supervise and participate in proper storage, labeling, and dating of food to maintain safety and freshness.
  • Assist in adjusting menus and meal preparation based on resident dietary needs and preferences.
  • Follow all state, federal, and local food safety regulations, including proper handling, sanitation, and storage.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control policies and maintain a clean, sanitary workstation.
  • Oversee deep cleaning of kitchen equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and food prep areas.
  • Maintain accurate temperature logs and compliance records.
  • Oversee and participate in setting up and breaking down dining areas before and after meal service.
  • Serve meals efficiently while accommodating resident preferences within dietary guidelines.
  • Offer alternative meal options to residents with special dietary needs.
  • Ensure all meal presentations meet high-quality standards.
  • Work closely with the Culinary Manager and culinary team to maintain efficiency and meal accuracy.
  • Train and mentor food service workers, reinforcing best practices in food safety and service.
  • Assist with inventory management, food ordering, and proper storage procedures.
  • Utilize strong computer skills to manage dietary programs and meal tracking systems.
  • Assist in gathering and addressing resident dietary concerns and food preferences.
  • Build positive relationships with residents to enhance their dining experience.
  • Demonstrate patience, compassion, and professionalism in a senior living environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service to residents, guests, and team members.
