About The Position

The Lead Floor Technician is responsible for overseeing and performing the maintenance, cleaning, and sanitization of all floor surfaces across the facility. This position ensures all flooring meets UG2’s quality and safety standards while providing guidance, training, and support to the floor care team. The Lead Floor Technician will operate and maintain specialized cleaning equipment, manage supplies, and help drive excellence in floor care operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated custodial or related experience required; leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Previous experience stripping and finishing a variety of floor types—including Terrazzo and VCT—strongly preferred.
  • Experience training or leading custodial or floor care staff is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform all floor care tasks, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and finishing across the DMU campus and facilities.
  • Oversee waste removal processes and ensure materials are transported to proper disposal areas.
  • Maintain and review accurate floor care logs, checklists, and documentation, ensuring compliance with UG2 standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels of equipment and supplies, coordinate ordering needs, and ensure proper stock rotation.
  • Train, mentor, and support new and existing staff in proper floor care techniques, safety protocols, and equipment usage.
  • Operate and oversee the use of walk-behind scrubbers, walk-behind extractors, swing buffers, and other floor care equipment.
  • Perform and guide staff in steam cleaning upholstery and other related tasks.
  • Ensure proper procedures are followed for chemical cleaners and power equipment to protect floors, fixtures, and staff safety.
  • Identify, report, and escalate any damages, maintenance needs, or safety concerns.
  • Enforce workplace safety standards and ensure team compliance with established protocols.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE in accordance with job tasks and safety requirements.
