About The Position

The Lead Farmer is familiar with all aspects of GlenCove Farms’ dynamic and versatile operations. A wide variety of vegetable, fruit, and floral crops are grown. Also, we care for livestock and apiary at 3 separate sites. In addition to farm tasks the Lead Farmer is also responsible for hosting the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) table each Saturday in May through September. The Lead Farmer will be responsible for overseeing the other Farmers and executing the task list for the day when the Farm Manager and the Assistant Farm Manager are away from the Farm.

Requirements

At least two years of previous farming experience preferred
Must have strong communication skills and be willing to ask clarifying questions
Must have working cell phone, personal vehicle or means of transportation to and from work and a valid driver’s license
Ability to lift heavy & awkward objects, up to 50 lbs. and to work physically outdoors on a daily basis
Physical dexterity and agility necessary in all aspects of the job for safety and efficiency
Consistent attention to detail
Work well independently and in a team setting
Able to perform repetitive work in inclement weather – standing, kneeling, bending over. OEI will provide appropriate protective gear
Environmentally conscious, detail oriented, self-motivated, energetic, and professional
Must represent OEI in a positive, professional manner, engaging with and educating visitors

Responsibilities

Fieldwork
Harvesting produce efficiently and consistently for a variety of markets
Transplanting and direct seeding crops reliably
Cultivation of crops by hand and with various tools
Irrigation setup, maintenance, and operation
Support implementation of integrated pest management plan
Greenhouse propagation and management
Post-Harvest Handling and Processing
Ability to oversee quality control during the wash and pack process to assure product is delivered as fresh and clean as possible
Packing orders accurately, according to the chefs orders, consistently in a fast-paced environment
Maintain a smooth, timely flow with team members while working through projects
