Position Summary The Lead Estimator is responsible for managing all estimating activities across CAM’s North American operations, supporting projects in Canada and the U.S. This role will oversee cost estimation for maintenance, small capital projects, turnarounds, and specialty services, ensuring accurate and competitive pricing to support business growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).
  • 10+ years of experience in estimating within the construction or industrial sector.
  • Proven experience preparing capital cost estimates ($10K to $50M) for industrial facilities such as: Petrochemical plants, gas plants, upgraders, refineries, and pulp & paper mills.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills—able to present, justify, and defend estimates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in estimating software, including ACCE or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of cost control methods and project management principles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all estimating efforts for industrial projects in Canada and the U.S.
  • Work closely with site teams and regional offices to develop cost data for proposals and bids.
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and scope to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates.
  • Perform material takeoffs (MTOs) and quantity estimates across various disciplines.
  • Develop and apply unit rates (cost and labor hours) to create comprehensive estimates.
  • Track and incorporate cost impacts of project changes into budgets and forecasts.
  • Establish cost control standards, reporting procedures, and performance metrics for estimating.
  • Conduct routine data analysis to optimize estimating accuracy and cost management.
  • Attend bid meetings and job walks.
  • Develop and implement estimating strategies, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Present and defend estimates to clients, senior management, and project teams.
  • Establish and oversee a centralized estimating function, improving efficiency and consistency.
