Primary Function of Position The Lead Engineering Technician is responsible for overseeing daily operations and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently by engineering technicians in the debug team. This position works closely with engineering teams to resolve manufacturing, quality, and process issues. In addition, the lead engineering technician assists with training and mentoring new technicians, maintaining tooling, fixtures, and a clean, well-organized workspace. A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required as well as a commitment to high product quality.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of component level troubleshooting experience on complex FPGA/Microprocessor-based Printed Circuit Assemblies (PCAs).
  • In-depth knowledge of Intuitive surgical systems, manufacturing processes, and equipment.
  • Proven ability to identify, troubleshoot, and propose solutions to electromechanical failure modes.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools to troubleshoot manufacturing escalations and quality notifications.
  • Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team of technicians, including delegating tasks and providing guidance.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform complex failure analysis using proper engineering FMEA methods.
  • Familiarity with Six-Sigma methods and ability to apply LEAN concepts.
  • Ability to interpret and/or develop queries for data collection and process improvement analysis.
  • Effective use of troubleshooting and measurement equipment like oscilloscopes, multi-meters, function generators, test platforms.
  • Excellent engineering technical documentation skills and ability to convey complex analyses cross-functionally.
  • Ability to drive change through leadership initiative, project establishment, presentation skills and cross-functional approval/acceptance.
  • Self-starter and motivated to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of experience and military training.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Experience with Agile, SAP, MES, and SPC or equivalent tools.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations under the guidance of a production supervisor.
  • Lead by example, and ensure technicians are motivated, engaged, and have all resources needed for maximum productivity.
  • Assist in training, mentoring, and professional development for debug technicians.
  • Reduce quality notification backlog as well as drive other process improvement projects.
  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives with engineering and quality teams
  • Create and distribute daily production reports that include performance to plan, quality issues, and equipment/fixture issues
  • Provide process feedback to the manufacturing, engineering, and training teams.
  • PL and VR Tracking and Managing.
  • Driving meetings for trends or issues.
  • Prepare and present production and/or quality data as assigned by management.
  • Provide training plan for employees to ensure job rotation.
  • Communicate with Mfg. Leads to identify the priorities of production line support.
  • Monitor team-member performance (safety, quality, efficiency, attendance) and escalate issues to management as needed.
  • Crosstrain or mentor others in areas of expertise (as needed).
  • Provide Manufacturing Systems Production support.
  • Other duties as assigned by management/supervisors.
