About The Position

The Lead Engineer is a senior hands-on technical role in charge of the stability, scalability, and evolution of live broadcast, post-production, ingest, and archive systems across a complex media environment. This job is a mix of operations and engineering work. You'll provide expert advice and support for urgent problems. You also give technical advice for important steps that impact live productions and sharing content.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience working in a live broadcast environment on an engineering team.
  • 5+ years as a broadcast or media engineering subject matter expert
  • Advanced knowledge of ingest, playout, post-production, and archive technology
  • Significant experience with Windows Server, Linux, and Windows desktop operating systems, OS deployments, software packaging, image management, security patching and Group Policy

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced skillset supporting transcode farms, encoders and decoders, tape robots and related infrastructure.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise infrastructure (network switches, firewalls, TCP/IP, AD, DNS).
  • Experienced with Docker and Kubernetes to manage containers and operate services in real-world environments.
  • Experience in using and configuring cloud platforms such as AWS and Google Cloud for live streaming, video editing, and archive storage, particularly in various environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise and broadcast storage such as Avid Nexis, Qumulo and TrueNAS.
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise with asset management and content platforms including Mimir and Avid Interplay.
  • Extensive experience supporting and optimizing GPU virtualization platforms such as Nutanix.
  • Expertise with video formats, codecs, compression schemes and wrappers, video signals and protocols including SD, HD, UHD, HDR, SRT, NDI, RTSP.
  • Scripting proficiency with Python, PowerShell or Bash.
  • Ability to create clear and concise documentation that is understandable by a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Advanced knowledge with remote access tools such as Leostream, Teradici or similar.
  • Advanced experience with monitoring tools such as Zabbix or New Relic.
  • Proven track record with innovation and bringing proof-of-concepts to production.

Responsibilities

  • Provide L2/L3 support for outages and escalations - troubleshoot and implement corrective actions to overcome technical issues impacting all post-production, ingest and archive workflows.
  • Deploy infrastructure from its initial design phase all the way to production.
  • Design, create and support workflows for content acquisition, content delivery and archive digitization.
