About The Position

The Lead EHS Specialist will provide direction and assistance to work groups in order to meet assigned objectives. In this role, you will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning. Subject matter experts will generally fall into this category. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience with Environmental, Health & Safety, or Industrial Hygiene systems)
  • Additional 3 years experience in Environmental, Health & Safety, or Industrial Hygiene / Manufacturing experience

Nice To Haves

  • Currently holds or will obtain within desired timeline Indiana Wastewater Operator's License / Certification (Indiana Class B License at minimum)
  • RCRA Waste Management experience with a large and small quantity generator
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside GE (regulatory agencies).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Previous experience developing and facilitation of training for the workforce.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the Site's technical expert on Environment Health & Safety (EHS) issues by providing input to Site EHS Focal Point and/or site management.
  • Serve as the lead for the site's wastewater and hazardous waste programs.
  • Initiate and influence integration of related policies and practices into the business.
  • Assist in implementation of programs and procedures to ensure compliance related to specific disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain general knowledge of existing and proposed regulations for Environmental Health & Safety.
  • Assist consultants and contractors on related issues.
  • Administer compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems.
  • Assist in conducting education programs related to specific disciplines.
  • Assist in issue resolution.
  • Individuals with expertise in a specific area, such as industrial hygiene, injury & illness, ergonomics, electrical safety, process safety management, etc. and/or providing general health & safety advice and support for multiple sites or a region.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members
