Mountain Recreation is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Lead Day Camp Counselor for our RecKids Day Camps. Would you like to share your passion for youth development and mentor other staff while ensuring campers have the best summer ever? As a Lead Day Camp Counselor, you will oversee program operations, guide and support Day Camp Counselors, and take a leadership role in building relationships, instilling confidence, and providing opportunities for growth and development for children. You will assist with summer day camps, winter and spring break camps, and school-year programs, and ensure high-quality, safe, and engaging experiences for all participants through your leadership, instruction, and motivation. The Lead Counselor serves as a role model, provides guidance to staff, and helps maintain program standards and consistency across all activities.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of: Behavior management techniques, childhood development principles, and the ability to plan and implement age-appropriate crafts, games, and activities. They should also understand effective teaching strategies, safety protocols, and sanitation guidelines to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work collaboratively as a team player with other counselors, staff, and supervisors.
  • Provide excellent customer service to participants, families, and the public.
  • Apply general knowledge of child development to plan and lead age-appropriate activities.
  • Work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have at least three (3) months (460 hours) of full-time or equivalent part-time satisfactory and verifiable experience working with school-age children
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must have current CPR Certification

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safety, well-being, and positive experience of children while in program care.
  • Provides direct supervision and guidance to children enrolled in the program.
  • Supervises youth in Mountain Recreation facilities and program activities, helping to provide safe and rewarding experiences.
  • Leads and participates in developmentally appropriate crafts, games, and other planned activities.
  • Assists in planning and preparing materials for camp activities.
  • Instructs specific activities within established guidelines and curriculum.
  • Conducts sign-in and sign-out procedures for campers.
  • Responds to accidents, incidents, and emergencies according to established procedures, including providing first aid care when necessary.
  • Reports observed or disclosed incidents of child abuse or neglect according to mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicates effectively with participants, families, staff, and the public regarding programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Follows Colorado State school-aged licensing policies and Mountain Recreation standards.
  • Upholds a high standard of quality Day Camp programming, supervision, and safety.
  • Sets up and breaks down equipment and facilities.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of facilities, program areas, and equipment; performs light maintenance such as picking up toys, craft supplies, sweeping/mopping floors, and wiping down surfaces.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to participants, families, and the public.
  • Attends staff meetings, trainings, and other professional development as required.
  • Disciplines children in an appropriate and constructive manner when necessary.
  • Reports problems with equipment, toys, or other hazards to supervisor.
  • Assists in emergency situations and ensures the safety of all patrons in the facility.
  • Completes special projects and assists in other program areas as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
