Mountain Recreation is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Day Camp Counselors for our RecKids Day Camps who are passionate about youth development and creating meaningful experiences for children. In this role, you will build positive relationships, foster a supportive and inclusive environment, and help participants develop confidence and new skills while creating lasting memories. Counselors assist with summer day camps, as well as winter and spring break camps and school-year programs, and play a key role in delivering high-quality experiences through leadership, creativity, and engagement that support strong youth, families, and community connections.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of: age-appropriate crafts, games, and activities for children, as well as program safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Follow directions and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
  • Work well with and actively engage children and youth in a supportive, professional manner.
  • Safely lift, restrain, and run after children/youth as needed during program activities.
  • Wear necessary and appropriate attire to actively participate in all camp activities.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, families, colleagues, and the public.
  • Establish and maintain positive, respectful, and cooperative relationships with all contacts.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older; AND
  • Previous experience working or volunteering with children or youth; OR
  • Any satisfactory combination of education, experience, and/or training that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must have a current CPR certification or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safety, well-being, and positive experiences of children while in program care.
  • Supervises youth in Mountain Recreation facilities and program activities, providing guidance and support.
  • Leads and participates in developmentally appropriate crafts, games, and other planned activities.
  • Prepares materials and sets up equipment for program activities.
  • Instructs specific activities according to established guidelines, curriculum, and program objectives.
  • Communicates effectively with participants, families, and the public, providing accurate information about programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Responds to accidents, incidents, and emergencies following established safety procedures.
  • Reports observed or disclosed incidents of child abuse or neglect according to mandated reporting requirements.
  • Monitors and identifies potential hazards, reporting unsafe conditions to supervisors.
  • Follows Colorado State school-aged childcare licensing policies and Mountain Recreation standards.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of facilities, program areas, and equipment; performs light maintenance such as picking up toys, craft supplies, sweeping/mopping floors, and wiping down surfaces.
  • Sets up and breaks down equipment and facilities as needed.
  • Completes special projects, assists in other program areas, and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides information to the public on facility operations and recreation programs.
  • Ability to answer questions regarding Day Camp policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
