Join a team that has received numerous awards for being a top place to work: TruStage awards and recognition Job Summary: The Lead Data Steward will play a critical role in overseeing data governance practices across the organization. This role will focus on the policies, processes, and standards across enterprise data, and will work closely with data management teams, business areas, legal, compliance, and IT teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information management, computer science, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in data management, data governance, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, and metadata management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively and persuasively communicate technical standards, practices, and initiatives to drive data governance throughout the organization.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with data governance tools and technologies (e.g., data catalogs, data quality tools).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance related to data management (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Certifications in data governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with enterprise stakeholders to define and implement data governance processes and standards.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to data standards, processes, and frameworks.
  • Participate in the development of data policies, including data retention, data privacy, data use, and data regulations
  • Work with business data owners to understand their data needs and ensure data governance policies support these needs
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure proper data synchronization across systems
  • Ensure data is deemed fit for purpose by regularly auditing data
  • Work closely with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance with data governance policies, facilitate audits and reviews, provide necessary documentation, and address any findings or recommendations related to data management practices
  • Direct and coordinate across business segment data stewards, without line-management authority, to manage data governance issues and initiatives
  • Manage communication of data governance policies, standards, and procedures to stakeholders
  • Develop data governance training programs to increase data literacy and educate stakeholders on data management practices
  • Experience with Data Access management principles and ensuring proper data governance around data access.
  • Strong ability to map out processes and controls and identify opportunities areas across them.
  • Experience with process mapping to break down business processes and facilitate the integration of data governance controls.
  • Experience aligning cross functional teams on source of truth and standard metrics definitions.
  • This steward role will have particular focus on stewarding analytical data assets and along with broader Governance team supporting the move to Data Products approach.
