About The Position

Provide legal guidance to management and leadership regarding employee benefit plans.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and admission to the Bar plus twelve (12) years’ experience as an attorney with at least three (3) years’ of experience practicing law in area of expertise
  • Strong knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes
  • Strong organizational skills, time-management and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and ability to use Microsoft office software, including but not limited to Work, Excel and Outlook

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel, direction and strategic advice to management at all levels regarding employee benefit plans
  • Ensure company compliance of all pension and welfare benefit plans with applicable federal and state laws
  • Represent the plans before government agencies and defend the plans in contested matters
  • Stay abreast of existing and new regulations and review, analyze and provide comments to notices of proposed rulemaking
  • Prepare, review and negotiate agreements and documents related to pension and welfare plans to ensure maximum benefit to the company with minimum exposure to risk
  • Interface with applicable governmental agencies and manage regulatory charges, claims, investigations, settlements and other legal proceedings
  • Provide guidance to executive leadership regarding employee benefit related regulatory matters that have a direct impact on the company
  • Coordinate, oversee and evaluate the performance and progress of outside counsel as necessary to ensure proper and efficient handling of legal matters
  • Perform independent special projects of a legal and confidential nature for the department or company, as assigned
  • Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
  • Perform other duties as required
