The Vanderbilt Memory and Alzheimer’s Center is searching for a Lead Communications Specialist with a passion for impactful storytelling and strategic digital engagement. Under occasional guidance from the Center Director and program leadership, this role offers the opportunity to develop communications strategies and materials that bring attention to cutting-edge Alzheimer’s research. High-level responsibilities are focused on facilitating digital engagement; planning, curating, and publishing social media content; and managing public relations efforts. The Vanderbilt Memory and Alzheimer's Center houses an interdisciplinary team of scientists and clinicians engaged in ground-breaking research to discover the root cause of Alzheimer's disease. The Center is highly collaborative, and this position requires flexibility, creative thinking, high attention to detail, and commitment to handling sensitive and confidential information with care. Successful applicants will enjoy working in a fast-paced scientific environment with colleagues and participants from diverse backgrounds. Your work will largely be performed in our Crystal Terrace office located at 3319 West End Ave. in Nashville, TN with occasional option to work remotely, and you will work Monday-Friday, standard daytime business hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of full-time work experience
  • Exceptional organizational, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft applications
  • Proficiency in Canva
  • Proficiency in Emma or similar email software

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with health/science communications, event management, website maintenance, and community relations is ideal.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Communications Strategy and Execution: Direct the creation and execution of communications efforts, including but not limited to monthly community and faculty newsletters, website, social media, academic and community events, donor communications, and public relations.
  • Expand Digital and Community Engagement: Grow the Center's digital audience to support study recruitment, clinical trial participation, and community outreach objectives.
  • Create and Maintain Communications Assets: Develop and manage print, digital, and infographic materials to enhance program visibility, including the annual impact report, press releases, talking points, digital graphics, event flyers and posters, and PowerPoint presentations for scientific and lay audiences.
  • Support Team and Program Growth: Guide team members by delegating tasks as appropriate, providing feedback, and seeking stakeholder input to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Promote Inclusive and Professional Environment: Foster a culture of trust and inclusion by demonstrating cultural competence, seeking self-development opportunities, and maintaining open and honest communication.
