About The Position

Summer Camp Dates: June 8th through August 19th Looking for a summer job that is fun, meaningful, and full of adventure? Step into a storybook summer at Merritt Academy, where campers (and counselors!) travel through time—from mystical pasts to imaginative futures—all while making unforgettable memories. We are looking for Counselors who bring great energy, creativity, and a love for working with kids to join our summer camp team. Lead Classroom Counselor is responsible for leading academic lessons in a structured classroom setting while also engaging children in interactive activities including organized arts and crafts, singing, sports activities, games and field trips while maintaining a safe environment. This position will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging academic lessons in subjects such as math, science, reading or writing as well as participate in daily camp activities for an assigned group of campers in a loving and safe environment. Lead Classroom Counselors will attend field trips and special activities for the program, including daily swimming, assists with C.I.T.s and Junior Counselor Program, and are required to be in ratio in a rotating basis. The Lead Classroom Counselor is responsible for performing all job tasks in a manner that exemplifies school standards of courtesy and values. Requirements

  • A love for children and a strong desire to make a difference every day.
  • Bachelors degree in Education or related field required
  • Experience working in a day camp environment required
  • Must be physically able to lift and carry a minimum of 45 pounds, engage in physical activity with children, and work indoors or outdoors.
  • Must be able to constantly move and interact with the children to provide stimulation and develop relationships.
  • Must be able to alternate often between sitting and standing.
  • Must be able to maintain sight and sound of the children at all times.
  • CPR and First Aid certified or willingness to obtain.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Pass pre-employment screenings and trainings as required.
