About The Position

The Lead Child Care Consultant will work in the south central region of the state and must live in the south central region of the state or contiguous to one of the following counties: Cumberland The Lead Child Care Consultant will Conduct pre-licensing activities for child care centers as well as: • Provide training and program consultation to current and potential facility operators to assure their understanding of the child care requirements. • Provide or coordinate consultation and/or training to child care providers as part of a Corrective Action Plan or Settlement Agreement. • Mentor new or less skilled consultants by providing individualized training, remediation, and modeling according to an established development plan. • Provide on-going team instruction on child care requirement interpretations, review of policies and procedures and new regulatory initiatives. • Communicate on a weekly basis with the team supervisor to whom assigned as well as the lead child care supervisor. • The successful applicant must reside in or be contiguous to the county service area. The Program Specialist will conduct pre-licensing activities for child care centers in the assigned territory and provide training and program consultation to the operator to ensure that there is a thorough understanding of the child care requirements. The Program Specialist will mentor new or less skilled consultants by providing individualized training and modeling, according to an established development plan. The Program Specialist will provide on-going team training on child care requirement interpretations, review of policies and procedures and new Regulatory Section initiatives. The Program Specialist will work out of their home and must be able to plan and manage their work independently. The applicant must be skilled in handling challenging people in sometimes highly stressful situations while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor. The applicant must have proficiency in the use of computer software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel, as those applications are used in completing daily work

Requirements

  • The successful applicant must reside in or be contiguous to the county service area.
  • The applicant must be skilled in handling challenging people in sometimes highly stressful situations while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
  • The applicant must have proficiency in the use of computer software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel, as those applications are used in completing daily work
  • Master's degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrates knowledge of theories, practices and principles of child development as related to child care services that include the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of children.
  • Experience in a child care or related setting involving the coordination, evaluation, or administration of a comprehensive program of child care services, or coordination/management of the child care component of a local social services program, or as an instructor or curriculum design specialist at the university or community college level.
  • Experienced in providing technical assistance and consultation in the areas of child care program administration and child development, health and safety, care-giving activities, nutrition, behavior management, prevention of child abuse/neglect, age-appropriate needs of children, parent involvement, and parent education to promote quality child care.
  • Experience as a child care consultant in North Carolina or another state.
