Our new Cardiovascular Interventional suite offers the complete integration of leading-edge imaging and technology to diagnose and treat patients with cardiovascular disease and other conditions using minimally invasive alternatives to surgical procedures. Our ‘Suite” team consists of expert Radiologists, Vascular Surgeons, Electrophysiologists, Interventional Cardiologists, Radiology technologists and Registered Nurses collaborating to provide innovative personalized care to our community. Performs a variety of services to Cardiovascular IR Suite patients including technical and patient care as they relate to Invasive Cardiology, Endovascular Surgery, and Interventional Radiology.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent required
  • Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic, Cardiovascular, or Cardiopulmonary Technology program.
  • Current cardiac catheterization experience of 1-2 years required or equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.
  • State license required
  • ARRT Certification required

  • Or eligible to be certified as RCIS or RCVT.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding of Cardiac and Vascular physiology and pathology.
  • Prepares procedure room and scrubs/first-assists MD during cardiac catheterization, endovascular procedures, or interventional radiology procedures and interventions including coronary or vascular stent placements, balloon angioplasties, endovascular aortic stent grafting, and/or IR procedures.
  • Prepares and drapes patients for the process, responds to their questions alleviating any concerns regarding the procedure, and ensures patient comfort.
  • Records and logs procedures, equipment, and devices as required in the medical record.
  • Monitors and records patient hemodynamic status during procedure as needed.
  • Performs cardiac outputs, O2 saturations and ACT (Activated Clotting Time) measurements.
  • Monitors a diagnostic cardiac catheterization procedure and intervenes appropriately during and after a lethal arrhythmia using ACLS standards if warranted.
  • Identifies cardiac pressure waveforms and informs Interventional Cardiologist when applicable
  • Understands the necessary supplies required, can provide them, and set up a table to perform a diagnostic cardiac catheterization, peripheral angiography, or other indicated procedure.
  • Maintains sterile field utilizing strict surgical asepsis and follows all guidelines.
  • Describes the fundamental steps in a diagnostic heart catheterization or peripheral vascular angiography or intervention and monitors a patient safely during the procedure.
  • Monitors a percutaneous intervention and can differentiate between a PTCA, directional and mechanical rotation atherectomy.
  • Full understanding of all extraction devices such as angiojet, rotational atherectomy, shockwave, penumbra and laser revascularization devices.
  • Identifies the benefits of supplementing angiographic imaging with intravascular ultrasound, OCT, or Cathworks/FFR/DFR.
  • Operates equipment properly in a reliable manner, per departmental standards, complying with all safety guidelines/policies.
  • Maintain radiographic equipment, and follow radiation safety and protection guidelines.
  • Works collaboratively with physicians, APPs, nurses, and other members of the team.
  • Orient and train new staff as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
