We're looking for an exceptional Broadcast / IP Engineer to help support and elevate our fully IP-based operation. From camera to final encoder, our workflow is built on ST 2110, powered by Arista switching, EVS Cerebrum orchestration, and Imagine SNP video processing. Requirements

  • Associates degree in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • Network certification required (Cisco, CompTIA Network+)
  • SBE certification preferred
  • Generally, 5+ years of experience in related field preferred
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits
  • Exceptional expertise across broadcast and production systems support and engineering, with a solid foundation in SDI and ST2110 IP-based technologies and workflows, with specialized skills in at least one of these critical areas
  • Extensive knowledge of computer networking, automation and workflow systems within broadcasting, as well as solid experience supporting and engineering transmitters
  • Consistent modeling and cultivation of a culture rooted in empathy, outstanding customer service, and strong, positive leadership
  • Hands-on understanding of IT and cellular systems, servers, and devices
  • Current knowledge of emerging technologies with eagerness to innovate and improve
  • Operational proficiency with Windows, Apple, and Linux systems for both servers and clients, including active directory environments
  • Strong abilities in Computer Aided Design (CAD), comfortable with reading, updating, and creating schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals
  • Positive, "can do" attitude and willingness to continuously learn and develop
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective connection and collaboration with colleagues and partners at all organizational levels
  • Ability to thrive in both independent and team settings
  • Adeptness at providing guidance, training, and support to less experienced personnel
  • Demonstrated capability to resolve complex, unforeseen technical issues under tight deadlines or pressure
  • Strong task prioritization to effectively meet department and station objectives
  • In-depth understanding of FCC rules and deep operational familiarity with studio, news, and control room technology
  • Confident utilization and interpretation of various test instruments and alignment tools
  • Strong computer literacy with evident initiative and self-motivation
  • Flexibility to work a variable schedule—including holidays, evenings, weekends, and possible overtime hours
  • Availability for travel as business needs arise
  • Readiness to work in diverse weather conditions
  • Physical capability of lifting up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Model and deliver world-class customer service, fostering positive, solution-oriented interactions with both internal and external business partners
  • Lead the planning, engineering, and development of technical standards for video over IP utilizing expertise in ST2110, NDI, PTP, NMOS protocols (IS-04, IS-05), and extensive IP networking
  • Apply hands-on knowledge of Arista switches, Lawo, and the EVS Cerebrum broadcast control and monitoring systems
  • Design, support, and install a wide range of broadcast, RF, and production systems across SDI and IP-based architectures
  • Research and coordinate solutions for the deployment and enhancement of software, hardware, servers, automation, and workflows to maximize efficiency and productivity while ensuring compliance with current industry standards and Scripps policies
  • Partner closely with the Director of Engineering and the news department to shape and support content workflow and systems—including software and hardware integration, networking, and troubleshooting
  • Support audio and video systems, cameras, editing platforms, streaming technology, and content management workflows, driving seamless newsroom and production operations
  • Manage asset purchasing and tracking replacement cycles while supporting budget planning
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of mobile live trucks, working with microwave, satellite, cellular bonding, and video/audio technology, including work in confined spaces and on mobile work platforms
  • Conduct proactive technical monitoring and update technical documentation to reflect completed installations and modifications
  • Maintain FCC-required logs and reports
  • Provide leadership in designing operational improvements
  • Facilitate collaboration between newsroom and production staff
  • Maintain detailed equipment repair records and oversee parts research and purchasing
  • Operate and ensure the functionality of studio, news, and control room equipment, keeping all systems fully operational
  • Perform other duties as assigned to elevate Scripps' broadcast and production excellence
