About The Position

NPG/KQTV is searching for a Broadcast Engineer responsible for executing all broadcast related engineering functions for our multi-platform facility in St. Joseph, MO. Duties include, but are not limited to, RF operations, broadcast and digital distribution systems, studio equipment, field news gathering equipment, tower site operations, and security systems. As a broadcast engineer your daily duties will be focused on supporting the staff at NPG/KQTV to troubleshoot and resolve issues restricting others from completing their job. In addition to being a support department for the success of the station you will also be tasked with larger projects as needed, not limited to but including the maintenance of transmitter and translator sites. Aiding in the installation of news systems that could include new software deployments, new deployments of broadcast specific equipment like Master Control Automation systems, Newsroom Production Systems, STL/TSL Microwave systems and more. Varied and extended hours include some weekends, holidays, on-call, localized travel to maintain transmitter sites within St. Joseph, MO.

Requirements

  • Must be able to deal confidentially with sensitive information.
  • Exudes superior customer service, fosters teamwork, and leads by example.
  • Significant technical expertise in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of Information Technology facilities
  • Understand the operation of all station equipment, including use of all related test equipment.
  • Requires on-call status when emergencies or failure of critical equipment occurs to the operation of the station. Occasional night and weekend work can be expected.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail, accuracy and strong organizational skills.
  • Heavy computer usage, including repetitive hand use and movement, is required. Some lifting is required. Some climbing and crawling may be required. Must be able to climb ladders, work in small places, and lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to troubleshoot IT based issues from basic hardware (replacing RAM/Hard Drives/Video Cards) to networking and software related issues.
  • Must be familiar with IT practices in a corporate environment including Active Directory basics, networking basics including the understanding and reasoning behind using various subnets, vlans, vpns, and various security protocols.
  • Requires a minimum of 4 years of related experience in television or radio station studio and transmission systems engineering and/or college degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • This is a service-oriented position requiring excellent written and oral communications, personable and timely interaction and response with fellow employees, and organizational skills.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen and possess or obtain a valid State of Missouri driver’s license with a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Television or Radio expertise a plus.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software, diagraming software like auto-cad, Visio or any other software to generate visual flow charts or block diagrams is a plus.

  • Ensure that all projects are properly implemented and executed per agreed-upon schedule.
  • Responds to equipment outages, malfunctions, and related technical problems at studio, transmitter, and translator locations.
