Ameresco seeks a highly skilled Lead Boiler Operator to oversee operations at a high-pressure steam plant supporting the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC . This role includes supervisory responsibilities, ensuring compliance, and mentoring operators working toward licensure.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • DC 1st Class High-Pressure Steam Operator License.
  • Minimum 3 years of boiler plant experience, including supervisory duties.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Ability to review confidential US security information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with rotating 12-hour shifts.
  • Knowledge of steam production systems and associated equipment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Will be required for ‘on call’ support or varied schedule needs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operation of gas and oil-fueled high-pressure steam facility.
  • Supervise and train boiler operators; validate hours for licensure progression.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and safety standards.
  • Coordinate subcontractor work and maintenance activities.
  • Perform plant rounds, monitor systems, and report abnormalities.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs and daily reports.
  • Manage shift turnovers and ensure smooth 24/7 operations.
  • Respond to trouble calls and document resolutions.
  • Adhere to Ameresco and customer safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as required.
