Lead, Biomed Technician Lead, Biomed Technician is responsible for conducting periodic inspections of the department verifying equipment performance, documentation, proper cleaning practices, safe and appropriate compressed gas and cryogenic oxygen cylinder filling, timeliness of equipment and cylinder processing, and any other projects as assigned by management or identified within position duties. Also responsible for tracking, scheduling, and conducting routine and preventive maintenance of all equipment, maintaining adequate stock of repair parts for at least 3 months’ worth of repairs, rapid processing and tracking of equipment returns, and the purchase requests for repair parts.

Requirements

  • An associate degree from an accredited college required or four (4) years equivalent work experience.
  • Possess BMET certification
  • Problem solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to clean, test and repair home medical equipment.
  • Accurately receive, stock, retrieve and load equipment and supplies.
  • Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities and tasks
  • Independent decision making
  • Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Certificates from manufacturers authorizing individual to complete “factory repair work” are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and enforces warranty information on all new products.
  • Supervises the Quality Assurance testing of all new equipment.
  • Responsible for assuring the record keeping associated with new equipment testing is consistent with accreditation and management standards.
  • Assures that purchase order requests are administered per departmental SOP, received, and items are inventoried appropriately.
  • Utilizes computer systems and other systems to help with equipment maintenance process.
  • Adds new equipment with maintenance recommendations to the appropriate maintenance-tracking database.
  • Assures department productivity and output quality each day.
  • Performs product evaluations on equipment being considered for purchase and assists in development of maintenance and testing policies and procedures.
  • Supervises the return of all equipment to manufacturers which needs repair and cannot be serviced internally.
  • Supervises warranty labor and parts claims submissions for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Responsible for conducting and/or supervising the routine maintenance for certain high-tech devices (i.e., ventilators, apnea monitors, etc.).
  • Responsible for documentation of testing, repairs, preventive maintenance, and tracking for all required equipment.
  • Maintains appropriate spare equipment, supplies, and parts to support corrective and planned maintenance activities, researches and locates repair parts when necessary, and initiates purchases requisitions for parts and for service by outside parties.
  • Responsible for the timeliness, quality, and prioritization of all equipment processing; prioritizes unscheduled work requests.
  • Responsible for appropriate and completed accident/incident reporting for employees, visitors, etc., including the follow-up and resolution with the appropriate people.
  • Responsible for identifying when equipment preventive maintenance is due on necessary clinical equipment.
  • Responsible for scheduling and performing preventive maintenance for all levels of necessary clinical equipment to ensure safe operating conditions and minimize down time.
  • Responsible for assuring department policies and procedures for the oxygen fill system (liquid and gaseous) are following FDA and NCDA and are followed by staff.
  • Assures department productivity and output quality each day.
  • Review’s equipment history and provides feedback relating to the continued use or disposal of the device.
  • Develops equipment maintenance and department SOPs as needed using appropriate manufacturer guidelines and references.
  • Develops professional working relationships with clinical staff, and assists them in improving patient care, as needed, or requested, through consultation and training in the appropriate and safe use of clinical equipment. Provides guidance to less-experienced staff.
  • Serve as “designated” team leader for the Manager and accepts assignments from the Director in the absence of the Manager.
  • Supervises the oxygen (liquid and gaseous) fill process.
  • Fills in for Gaseous O2 Batch Production Technicians, Biomed Technicians, and Biomed Technician II’s as needed.
  • Responsible for communicating actual and potential parts/equipment/supplies stock shortages or outages to the leadership in a timely manner to assure adequate inventory level.
