Lead Asset Automation Engineer

CDS GlobalCharlotte, NC

About The Position

We're looking for an experienced automation professional who's ready to take the next step in their career—not just as a hands-on technical expert, but as a leader and mentor. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll spend about 70% of your time designing and executing a technical roadmap, and building or recommending integrations, and 30% coaching a small team and driving organizational change. You'll lead a team of 2-3 experienced hardware and software professionals who have strong governance foundations but are looking for a compliment to their talents with someone who understands infrastructure-as-code, API integrations, and automation frameworks. Your job is to guide them on that journey while also establishing yourself as a go-to expert on automation and AI enablement across the organization.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years in automation engineering, systems integration, or platform engineering roles
  • Experience with REST APIs and at least one scripting language (Python or PowerShell)
  • Strong interest in Agentic AI and LLMs
  • Experience owning or operating an enterprise system (CMDB, ITSM, asset management, or similar)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills—you can explain complex topics simply
  • Exposure to Hardware or Software management

Nice To Haves

  • ServiceNow familiarity
  • Experience with integration platforms or automation approaches
  • Familiarity with modern development practices (version control, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code)
  • Exposure to AI tools, RPA platforms, or low-code/no-code automation solutions
  • Experience leading change management or enablement initiatives
  • Working knowledge of CMDB concepts and asset data lifecycle management

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver the automation and systems integration roadmap for the organization
  • Build or direct modern integrations across enterprise platforms using REST APIs, and/or re-platforming, and integration tools
  • Work with subject matter technology teams (Identity engineering, ServiceNow development, Network Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.) to build a robust asset management platform or platforms
  • Create workflows, scripts, and automations that measurably reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency
  • Mentor and upskill a team of 2-3 technical professionals, introducing them to modern practices like IaC, CI/CD, and API development
  • Champion the adoption of automation and AI tools across the organization, providing training, and enablement to non-technical teams
  • Improve data flows and accuracy for our CMDB, asset management systems, and related platforms
  • Replace legacy manual processes with modern, scalable automated solutions
