About The Position

The Lead Aquatic Maintenance position is a seasonal position, working May through August. Hours are up to 35 per week, evenings, mornings and weekends. We offer competitive compensation, and PTO for seasonal employees. Job Purpose: The Lead Aquatic Maintenance position is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining facilities, pools, and mechanical areas at two outdoor pool facilities, Rehm and Ridgeland Common. Additionally, this position is responsible for power washing pool decks, performing filter maintenance and testing pool water and operating chemical control units to ensure standards are met and facilities are clean, safe, and attractive for all users of the Park District. This position is expected to provide excellent customer service by effectively communicating and enforcing Park District rules, regulations, and policies to pool patrons. The Lead Aquatic Maintenance position is responsible for performing the essential functions as outlined in this description.

Requirements

  • Have a valid driver’s license.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Some college preferred.
  • Previous experience with maintenance and grounds works preferred.
  • Familiar with gas or battery powered small equipment preferred.
  • Experience using power tools and hand tools preferred.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work with other support staff.
  • Must be able to complete the required Park District training, including preseason training.
  • Certification in advanced Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. District trained.
  • Frequent crouching, walking, standing, climbing, reaching, bending, digging and lifting.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Will be exposed to inclement weather including heat, humidity, rain, and wind.
  • Will be exposed to chemicals such as acids, glues, chlorine and various cleaning solutions.
  • Protective clothing is required as it pertains to the task. Examples include safety goggles, closed-toed shoes, protective rubber or leather gloves, hard hat, respirator, and outer wear.
  • Some exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and elevation.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Ability to be self-directed throughout the entire shift.
  • Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a concise manner.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively and to read and understand printed material.
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment.
  • Ability to be motivated, and assume a positive role, even while working under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to effectively interact, cooperate and communicate well with others including other pool staff
  • Ability to interpret and explain department District policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and exercise judgment in all aspects of responsibility.
  • Ability to resolve conflict safely, calmly and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning throughout the facility including, but not limited to bathrooms, common areas, locker rooms, pools, decks and mechanical spaces.
  • Operate pool filtration system, pool vacuums, and all other related equipment following all Park District of Oak Park policies and procedures.
  • Check water chemicals and perform filter room inspections as assigned, to ensure normal operation, safety, and code compliance.
  • Report maintenance needs to Maintenance Manager, follow up on status with Manager.
  • Assist with facility operation by effectively responding to customer questions, comments and concerns.
  • Maintain tools in good condition and report any potential issues.
  • With training, able to properly operate gas or battery powered equipment, such as lawn mower, power washer, pool vacuums.
  • Able to safely drive a Park District pickup truck
  • Work cooperatively with fellow Park District staff
  • Supervise and direct seasonal maintenance staff
  • Inspect equipment daily for possible maintenance needs and repairs.
  • Enforce all facility rules including pool rules, deck rules, entrance & exit policies, locker room rules, swim diaper and rubber pants requirements, and any other rules as stated around the facility.
  • Practice and promote workplace safety.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, and participants immediately.
  • Ensure facilities are locked and unlocked completely and properly.
  • Wear a PDOP staff shirt and identification during all work hours.
  • Maintain a complete understanding of Park District emergency action plans and assist in the execution of the plan when required.
  • Assist in preseason set-up, post-season tear-down (if available), and all special event set-up/tear-down.
  • Attend staff meetings and training programs as specified, including preseason trainings.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Park District supervisors.
