About The Position

The Lead Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides clinical leadership and oversight for behavioral health prescriber services while delivering high-quality, integrated patient care. This role supports psychiatric and substance use treatment through direct patient services, staff supervision, and collaboration on clinical protocols, quality assurance, and program development. The Lead APRN serves as a clinical role model, ensuring evidence-based, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed care across assigned programs. Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (R.N.) with a Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Illinois, in good standing
  • Minimum of three (3) years of post-licensure prescribing experience
  • Psychiatric certification required
  • Demonstrated prescribing experience with Medication for Alcohol Use Disorder (MAUD) and Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory, leadership, or charge nurse experience
  • Ability to bill for evaluating and prescribing medications
  • Strong organizational, leadership, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary, integrated care teams

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, mentor, supervise, and evaluate assigned Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs)
  • Review, collaborate on, and provide feedback regarding clinical protocols, quality assurance activities, and program processes to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Provide psychiatric behavioral health assessments and medication management services in accordance with Nurse Practitioner Collaborative Agreements, state and federal regulations, and agency policies
  • Prescribe and manage medications, including Medication for Alcohol Use Disorder (MAUD) and Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD), as appropriate
  • Maintain a minimum assigned level of direct patient services
  • Model and reinforce evidence-based, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed care practices, emphasizing hope, respect, empowerment, wellness, and connectedness
  • Provide leadership to promote positive, professional interactions within Chestnut and with community partners
  • Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation and data entry, including evaluations, follow-ups, and progress notes, utilizing recovery-oriented language and telehealth services when assigned
  • Function as an engaged team member by leading and attending meetings, delivering assigned trainings, participating in program development activities, and providing support and backup to colleagues
  • Promote Chestnut’s culture of customer service excellence through adherence to behavioral standards
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all organizational, financial, and patient information
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program and organizational goals
