About The Position

The Lead Additive Process Engineer will provide technical leadership and expertise in additive manufacturing processes, ensuring the successful transition of conceptual designs into producible and high-quality components. The role focuses on the development, implementation, and improvement of additive manufacturing processes, ensuring safety and quality compliance. By collaborating with cross-functional teams and leveraging FLIGHT DECK fundamentals, the individual will contribute to achieving business outcomes in safety, quality, delivery, and cost while mentoring others and leading strategic improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years additive manufacturing experience + minimum of 3 years additive manufacturing experience

  • Experience with manufacturing work instructions and shop planning.
  • Knowledge of additive process parameters and equipment.
  • Experience with additive technology/manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and/or own process strategy of DMLM qualification processes with support for the DMLM process engineering team as required.
  • Author and/or approve process specific work instructions, statements of work, and standard operating practices.
  • Develop best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve technology and processes related to additive manufacturing of parts. Specifically, processes related but not limited to additive file creation, parameter development and assignment, powder use/handling, machine qualification, and material testing.
  • Review in-process monitoring images using the IPM toolkit; define containment and improvement actions for anomalies.
  • Assess processes, take measurements, interpret data, and document results.
  • Provide additive process development history and documentation as required.
  • Create manufacturing shop routers as required following best practices for process and data quality requirements within shop MES.
  • Develop and manage project plans for new machine/part process introductions or changes and their respective substantiations.
  • Manage vendor purchase orders as required for assigned builds related to root cause investigations and/or technology development.
  • Create and/or peer review DMLM tech plans as required.
  • Evaluate part drawings for DMLM notes and machine implications on existing technology; review/approve build platform and/or recoater blade drawings with guidance as required.
  • Support and/or present details and recommended actions within Producibility Reviews to provide technical leadership, influence, and guidance related to the part’s design, support structure, layout, and/or build stability risks.
  • Clearly communicates to site leadership regarding Problem Solving and/or Tech milestones (TRL, MRL, IPT Reviews) and escalates concerns when needed.
  • Support team strategic improvement projects tied to site KPIs.
  • Identify team training needs and ensure training plan compliance, mentoring entry-level engineers.
  • Lead and/or participate in root cause investigations leveraging FLIGHT DECK fundamentals for any DMLM process or manufacturing failure as required.
  • Follows established processes and procedures and provides change feedback when required.
  • Powder dosing strategy development for existing and/or new technology.
  • Participate in shop Genba walks for process and technology development leveraging technician feedback throughout the DMLM operations and applicable post processes.
  • Support vertical leaders to enable new technology or process maturation related to producibility and/or cost improvements.
  • Interface with a cross functional team to ensure business outcomes around safety, quality, delivery, and cost are achieved.
