About The Position

A Lead Activities Assistant (sometimes called a Lead Life Enrichment Assistant) plays a crucial role in improving residents' quality of life by planning, implementing, and coordinating engaging daily activities. The Lead role typically involves mentoring other team members, overseeing volunteer programs, managing activity inventory/logistics, and assisting the Activities Director with calendar creation and compliance reporting.

Requirements

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in senior living, memory care, or recreational programming.
  • Outstanding customer service, patience, and compassion when working with the elderly.
  • Ability to design unique, engaging activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple events at once.
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and scheduling software.
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods, and lift/carry supplies (often up to 50 lbs).
  • A valid driver’s license is often required for driving the facility van.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily group and one-on-one activities, including exercise classes, arts and crafts, music, games, and sensory programs.
  • Assist the director in developing monthly activity calendars and creating event advertisements or daily informational schedules.
  • Coordinate transportation for off-site excursions, manage activity inventory, and set up/clean up event spaces.
  • Actively encourage participation, adapt programs to meet diverse cognitive and physical needs (such as for memory care), and conduct resident interviews to assess interests.
  • Maintain accurate records of resident attendance and participation, and report behavioral or physical changes to the nursing staff.
  • May be responsible for training and managing volunteers or other activity staff, overseeing specific neighborhoods (like Memory Care), and coordinating with other departments for special events.
  • Lead and participate in diverse daily activities, including exercise classes, arts and crafts, music programs, social events, and educational workshops.
  • Assist the Director in creating the monthly activity calendar, ensuring a balanced schedule that meets physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual needs.
  • Provide leadership to other activity assistants and volunteers, ensuring they are motivated and prepared for daily tasks
  • Get to know residents to create tailored experiences, especially for memory care or dementia patients.
  • Maintain and manage activity supplies, set up/clean up spaces, and ensure activity areas are safe and tidy.
  • Maintain attendance records and document resident participation or changes in behavior to comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate transportation for outings and assist with decorating for holidays or special events.
