About The Position

The Lead Accountant, SEC Reporting is a hands-on individual-contributor leader responsible for driving the company’s external financial reporting, technical accounting analyses, and compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and SOX requirements. This role leads the preparation of quarterly and annual filings, coordinates disclosure inputs across functional teams, supports earnings release materials, and develops governance processes that enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency. Although the role does not initially include direct reports, it requires a professional who can operate with leadership-level ownership—setting standards, guiding contributors, and supporting future scalability of the reporting function. Experience with Form S-1 initial registration statements and IPO-readiness activities is strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong experience with SEC reporting (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K).
  • Hands-on disclosure drafting experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, SEC rules, internal controls, and SOX.
  • Experience ERP software (Sage Intacct preferred); advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and operate independently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation, drafting, and review of Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and related SEC filings.
  • Prepare and update financial statements, footnotes, MD&A sections, and disclosure checklists.
  • Support development of quarterly earnings release materials and non-GAAP reconciliations.
  • Perform and/or review XBRL tagging and filing validations.
  • Manage the SEC reporting calendar and disclosure committee workflow.
  • Coordinate with Legal, FP&A, HR, Tax, and Treasury.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors.
  • Support or lead preparation of Form S-1 filings.
  • Support IPO readiness and control enhancements.
  • Research complex accounting issues and prepare technical accounting memos.
  • Provide guidance on ASC 606, ASC 842, share-based compensation, FX, capitalized software, and other areas.
  • Evaluate new accounting standards and support policy development.
  • Partner with business stakeholders on accounting implications of new transactions.
  • Ensure SEC reporting processes comply with SOX 404 expectations.
  • Maintain and enhance process narratives and control documentation.
  • Support quarterly reviews and annual audits with schedules and reconciliations.
  • Perform and review journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Validate consolidation results and data flow accuracy.
  • Ensure seamless integration of close-to-reporting activities.
  • Serve as central point of contact for reporting matters.
  • Communicate deadlines, risks, and requirements to leadership.
  • Provide informal mentorship and support future function scalability.

  • Competitive Base Salary Range of $89,700-$143,900 Kapitus is providing this as a good faith salary range to comply with applicable law. The applicant’s final salary will depend on a number of factors including the applicant’s geographic location, skills, and experience.
