About The Position

ZemiTek, LLC is a Woman-Owned, SBA-certified 8(a) Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) based in the Washington, DC metro area. We have a strong record delivering innovative and high-quality solutions. Since 2007, ZemiTek has provided technical assistance, project management, information technology (IT), knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation, training and learning development, and institutional support services. The USAID Office of the General Counsel (OGC) serves as the Agency’s Chief Legal Office, providing advice on legislative, administrative, and program matters. OGC represents USAID in legal matters, including administrative and litigation, congressional investigations, and interagency legal coordination. The USAID Office of General Counsel is looking for licensed attorneys to handle employment law matters generally. If they have not already, these lawyers will need to familiarize themselves with federal employment rules, including grievance procedures. As needed, these lawyers will be expected to support litigation arising from non-personnel matters, including assisting in the representation of USAID in federal and administrative litigation arising under the Contract Disputes Act, the Administrative Procedure Act, the False Claims Act, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and the Federal Tort Claims Act, among others.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.), and admitted to a state bar in good standing, and possesses four (4) to eight (8) years of relevant post-bar legal experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of Google Applications and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to efficiently multitask and prioritize workload accordingly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interact with people at all management and support levels; Collaborate with team members to achieve shared goals.
  • Ability to conduct investigations into general employee misconduct, including violations of federal government regulations and policies.
  • Conduct research and analyze information to support decision-making
  • Prioritize work effectively to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal formats
  • Ability to handle, defend, and monitor responses to employee grievances, including drafting and timely submitting all responses.
  • Eligible for a public trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support and assistance to attorneys handling administrative and federal litigation throughout the life of a case;
  • Reviews case materials to become familiar with questions under consideration;
  • Searches for and summarizes relevant articles in trade magazines, law reviews, published studies, financial reports, and similar materials for use of attorneys in the preparation of opinions, briefs, and other legal documents;
  • Prepares summary interview reports for the attorney's review;
  • Reviews legal documents to extract selected data and information relating to specific case;
  • Searches and extracts legal references in libraries and computerized data banks;
  • Reviews case materials to become familiar with questions under consideration;
  • Verifies citations and legal references on prepared legal documents;
  • Drafts and edits non-legal memoranda, research reports, and correspondence relating to cases; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
