About The Position

The Law Student Teaching Assistant (TA) supports instruction in a first-year, bar-tested law school course. The TA works closely with the faculty member to assist students in mastering foundational legal doctrine, developing analytical and exam-writing skills, and adjusting to the academic rigor of law school. This position is designed for high-performing second- or third-year law students who have demonstrated excellence in the relevant subject area and a strong commitment to academic support and mentorship. This position offers an opportunity to deepen substantive legal knowledge, develop teaching and mentoring skills, and contribute meaningfully to first-year student success.

Requirements

  • Enrollment as a second-year (2L) or third-year (3L) student in good academic standing.
  • Strong performance (typically an A or equivalent) in the course or subject area being supported.
  • Demonstrated excellence in legal research, writing, and analytical reasoning.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a teaching assistant, tutor, or academic success fellow.
  • Interest in teaching, academic support, or legal education.
  • Sensitivity to diverse learning styles and backgrounds

Responsibilities

  • Assist the professor with instructional support, including preparing review materials, hypotheticals, and practice exam questions.
  • Hold regular office hours, review sessions, and small-group workshops focused on doctrine, legal reasoning, issue-spotting, and exam strategies.
  • Provide academic support to first-year students, particularly those who may be at risk academically, while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Review and provide feedback on practice essays or problem sets, consistent with faculty guidance and law school policies.
  • Attend class sessions as requested and meet regularly with the professor and the Director of Academic Success to coordinate student support and course objectives.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for first-year students navigating law school expectations and study skills.
