About The Position

The Airport Law Enforcement Sergeant provides day-to-day supervision and leadership while actively participating in law enforcement operations at the Lincoln Airport.

Requirements

  • Operate radio, computer, and telephone systems efficiently and effectively.

  • Knowledge of law enforcement skills, laws, and regulations.

  • Willing to be assertive in potentially dangerous situations.
  • Understand and respect the proper use and care of firearms.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Meet the standards of the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.
  • Must be a certified Nebraska law enforcement officer.
  • The employee must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment reference check, criminal history check (required by the Transportation Security Administration), physical assessment, drug screening, and MVR (motor vehicle report) review, and other requirements as per Lincoln Airport Authority policy.
  • The employee must possess, when hired, and maintain while employed, a valid State of Nebraska driver’s license and be insurable under normal rates.
  • Also, the employee must be airfield certified within six months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of law enforcement experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the ranking Lincoln Airport Authority representative, in the absence of management personnel, and will be responsible for emergencies, changes in field conditions, and any other non-routine matters of major proportions.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in the Airport Police Department in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including evaluation and training.
  • Create and maintain Airport Law Enforcement officer schedules to ensure adequate staffing at all times.
  • Report violations of applicable state and local laws with respect to the Revised Statutes of Nebraska and the Lincoln Municipal Code and enforce the Rules and Regulations of the Airport Authority and the provisions of the Airport Security Program to safeguard property and persons.
  • When authorized by management/supervisory staff, assist local law enforcement agencies.
  • While on duty at the airport, an officer has the authority to arrest, with or without a warrant, for the following violations of the criminal laws of the State of Nebraska and the City of Lincoln a crime committed in the officer’s presence a felony, when the officer has reason to believe that the suspect has committed it
  • Appear in court to present evidence and testify against persons violating the rules and regulations of the Lincoln Airport Authority.
  • Implement applicable procedures as outlined in the Airport Emergency Plan during emergency situations.
  • Maintain proper logs, reports, and forms recording circumstances in detail surrounding non-routine occurrences affecting airport security, safety, or environmental conditions.
  • Maintain vehicular and pedestrian traffic control in front of the terminal.
  • Periodically perform communication center duties.
  • Provides security for passengers and airline personnel during the boarding of aircraft in accordance with FAR’s 107 and 108.
  • Respond to non-screening incidents within the airport terminal or other airport locations as directed.
  • Inspect air operations areas for FAR Part 139 compliance.
  • Monitor alarm and CCTV System.
  • Perform all duties assigned in the operation of the Lincoln Airport Authority and Industrial Park.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.
