About The Position

McFarlane Alaska is part of the McFarlane Aviation family, a trusted name in aviation manufacturing and aircraft parts distribution. Our Palmer facility specializes in producing high-quality aviation components used by pilots, mechanics, and aircraft operators across the industry. We are seeking a Lathe Operator to join our production team. This role is responsible for machining precision components using lathe equipment while maintaining the quality and accuracy required for aviation manufacturing. Position Overview The Lathe Operator is responsible for setting up and operating lathe machines to manufacture aircraft components and related parts. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work from technical drawings to produce parts that meet strict specifications.

Requirements

  • Experience operating manual or CNC lathe equipment in a machining or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and machining instructions
  • Experience using precision measurement tools
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and safely handle materials

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in aerospace or aviation manufacturing
  • Experience working with tight tolerance machining
  • Familiarity with production manufacturing environments
  • Basic knowledge of machining setup and troubleshooting

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and/or CNC lathes to machine aircraft components and production parts
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions
  • Measure parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
  • Maintain tight tolerances and quality standards required for aviation manufacturing
  • Perform tool changes, machine adjustments, and routine equipment checks
  • Deburr and inspect finished components to ensure compliance with specifications
  • Document production and inspection results as required
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation in accordance with shop safety standards
  • Work collaboratively with production and quality teams to meet manufacturing schedules
