About The Position

Purpose of the role To execute trades and manage risk within a defined portfolio of financial instruments and staying informed about market trends and developments to make informed trading decisions. Accountabilities Execution of buy and sell orders or pricing of liquidity in various financial instruments while adhering to the bank's trading strategies and risk parameters. Monitoring and analysis of global financial markets, economic indicators, news, and geopolitical events to identify trading opportunities and assess market risks. Management and monitoring of the risk associated with the trading portfolio and ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal risk management guidelines. Collaboration with research analysts and other teams to gather insights and information for trading decisions. Director Expectations To manage a business function, providing significant input to function wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business wide.. They manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. Or for an individual contributor, they lead organisation wide projects and act as deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross functionally. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions.. Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives. Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function. Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately. Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence. Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate. Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives. Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area. Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally. Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions. Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division. Barclays Capital Inc. seeks LatAM Sovereign Trader in New York, NY (multiple positions available): Provide coverage for Emerging Markets Credit Trading business of global financial services firm, including LatAm financial institutions across the region. Use bond pricing tools, trading tools, brokers systems, and information systems to prepare ‘bid and offer’ prices to clients and counterparts. Work with internal Credit Sales and Research teams to develop trading ideas and strategies for external clients, including mean reversion. Manage bond risk in LatAm financial credits. Provide coverage as backup Trader for other traders on the LatAm corporate trading desk, as necessary. Develop trading ideas and trading strategies for clients, including mean reversion. Interact with a team of 5 other LatAm credit traders and analysts, to meet a budget of $15-$25mio annually. Manage risk responsibly within thresholds, market-making to clients, pitching trade ideas, mentoring junior traders and meeting target revenues. 8% travel required to client sites domestically and internationally to develop and maintain client relationships. To client sites domestically and internationally to develop and maintain client relationships and to develop trading ideas and trading strategies for clients, including mean reversion. Trading emerging markets in Latin America requires travel to Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, U.K, Europe as well as different US cities such as Boston, Baltimore, LA and Chicago. This travel is key to building and maintaining the banks emerging market franchise in Latin America.
