About The Position

The Laser Programmer is responsible for creating, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs that drive our laser cutting operations. This role translates engineering designs into precise machine instructions, ensuring high-quality output, efficient material usage, and consistent production performance. You’ll work closely with engineering and production teams to support both new product introduction and ongoing manufacturing, with a strong focus on sheet metal fabrication. This is a highly hands-on role that requires both technical expertise and problem-solving ability—you’re not just writing programs, you’re making sure they work in the real world.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360)
  • Proficiency in G-code programming for CNC machinery
  • Experience with laser cutting systems (Amada Mitsubishi preferred)
  • Solid understanding of machining processes, materials, and fabrication methods
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T
  • Strong mathematical skills (algebra, geometry, trigonometry)
  • High attention to detail and commitment to precision
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently
  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine behavior
  • High school diploma required
  • Technical certificate or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or engineering preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automation in a manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to powder coating or paint shop processes
  • Familiarity with integrated production environments (cutting → finishing workflows)

Responsibilities

  • Create, edit, and maintain CNC programs (G-code) for laser cutting and related machinery
  • Utilize CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360) to develop accurate and efficient programs
  • Optimize programs for speed, material utilization, and machine efficiency
  • Support programming for Amada Mitsubishi laser systems and related equipment
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D models
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure precision and compliance with specifications
  • Translate design intent into manufacturable processes
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine parameters (feeds, speeds, offsets)
  • Support setup and validation of new jobs on the production floor
  • Ensure programs are production-ready and repeatable
  • Diagnose and resolve programming and machining issues in real time
  • Debug programs and adjust for machine performance or material variation
  • Partner with engineering and operations to improve processes and reduce waste
  • Inspect first-run parts using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
  • Ensure all output meets engineering and quality standards
  • Identify and address root causes of defects related to programming or process
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering, machinists, and production teams
  • Support new product introduction and prototyping efforts
  • Contribute to process improvements across fabrication and finishing operations
