About The Position

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior or Lead Laser/Optics/Mechanical Lab Technician (Level 4 or 5) to join their team at the Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This role involves supporting the Air Force Research Lab in advancing Space Domain Awareness capabilities using ground-based telescopes. The Starfire Optical Range is a world-class research facility known for its achievements in adaptive optics, driven by a dedicated team of engineers and technicians. The team is responsible for planning, designing, integrating, and testing complex optical, electronic, and laser systems to achieve research objectives. This position is 100% onsite.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in engineering technician, construction or facilities maintenance disciplines
  • 6+ years of experience working with powered hand tools or equipment
  • Willing and able to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends
  • Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required)

Nice To Haves

  • 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance
  • Experience operating complex computer-based analysis or control systems
  • Experience with high power lasers
  • Experience with optical alignment techniques
  • Experience with electronics/electrical systems
  • Experience with mechanical systems

Responsibilities

  • Plans, conducts and documents complex tests on products, systems, components, materials, and manufacturing processes and technologies.
  • Designs, fabricates, builds and analyzes test systems, materials, components, software and methodologies.
  • Coordinates test requirements, determines test methods and capabilities.
  • Conducts system test preparations by guiding system integration, fabrication, modification, setup, checkout and teardown.
  • Performs test article configuration control.
  • Conducts complex tests, analyzes data and documents results; participates in test readiness reviews.
  • Identifies and resolves test anomalies.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex laboratory and test-related problems.
  • Coordinates test laboratory activities, maintenance and repairs, and personnel training.
  • Assists government agencies, safety and hazardous materials teams in the event of emergencies.
  • Assists engineers and senior technicians with efforts such as optical alignment.
  • Serve as a crew member for tests, being trained in optics and lasers, telescope operator, camera operator, or atmospheric operator.
