About The Position

Key Responsibilities Machine Operation & Setup: Set up and operate CNC laser cutting equipment according to job specifications. Load and unload sheet metal materials onto the machine bed using forklifts or material handling equipment. Select and install proper cutting nozzles and adjust focus and lens as needed. Run production programs and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency. Programming & Troubleshooting: Interpret blueprints, DXF files, and work orders to determine machine settings and cutting parameters. Make minor edits to CNC programs using controller interface when required. Identify and troubleshoot machine errors, alarms, and material issues. Collaborate with programmers or engineers to resolve technical problems. Quality Control: Perform first-article inspections and check part dimensions using calipers, tape measures, and gauges. Monitor cut quality, edge condition, and part flatness throughout production. Ensure that parts meet tolerance and quality standards before moving to the next operation. Machine Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine maintenance such as lens cleaning, filter checks, and lubrication per manufacturer recommendations. Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure safety and productivity. Follow all shop safety protocols including PPE use, material handling, and equipment lockout procedures. Documentation & Communication: Accurately record production data, downtime, and material usage. Report quality issues or machine malfunctions to supervision. Work closely with the fabrication and scheduling teams to ensure jobs are completed on time. Qualifications & Skills Education: High school diploma or GED required. Technical school or CNC training preferred but not required (we’ll teach you the laser dance). Experience: 2+ years operating CNC laser cutting equipment (AMADA, Trumpf, Bystronic, or similar preferred). Experience with sheet metal fabrication and material types (steel, aluminum, stainless, etc.). Familiarity with nesting software (e.g., CUT 3I, Fusion, Lantek, SigmaNEST) a plus. Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and part drawings. Understanding of cutting speeds, feeds, material types, and machine parameters. Basic computer skills and ability to use CNC controller interfaces. Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Good communication and teamwork abilities. Self-motivated with a commitment to quality and safety. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, lift, bend, and move for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted. Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, and industrial equipment. Work Environment The CNC Laser Operator works in a fast-paced fabrication environment, with frequent interaction with other production staff. Safety, cleanliness, and teamwork are essential.
