About The Position

Omitron is seeking a Laser Analyst to join our team in Alexandria, VA. Analysts will conduct routine screening and assessment of laser activity and potential laser-related hazards impacting on-orbit satellite operations. As part of a highly technical operations environment, analysts will support the identification, evaluation, and communication of laser-related safety-of-flight risks to satellite operators and government stakeholders. These operations support the protection of U.S. space assets across all phases of the satellite life cycle, including launch, on-orbit operations, anomaly resolution, and end-of-life disposal. Analysts will work alongside senior scientists, engineers, and mission partners to develop technical expertise in laser hazard analysis and space environment monitoring while contributing to one of the premier spaceflight safety teams supporting national security missions.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Security Clearance: Top Secret/SCI security clearance with CI Polygraph required
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar STEM discipline
  • Experience: 2+ years of relevant experience in Laser Analysis, Optical Systems, Space Domain Awareness, Orbital Analysis, or related technical field (experience may be considered in lieu of degree)

  • Familiarity with laser propagation principles and atmospheric effects
  • Experience supporting space operations or government customers

  • Experience analyzing technical sensor or environmental data

Responsibilities

  • Train on complex aerospace and space-domain awareness systems designed to detect and assess laser activity affecting satellites
  • Conduct analysis of potential laser illumination events and evaluate impacts to satellite sensors and subsystems
  • Interface with satellite constellation operators to provide timely information regarding identified laser-related hazards
  • Act as a subject matter contributor in laser hazard analysis within the broader space environment context
  • Learn system functions and troubleshoot basic system anomalies
  • Submit operational reports documenting system performance, detected events, and analytic findings
  • Collaborate with advanced analysts and system-tier support to develop temporary procedures in support of evolving operational requirements
  • Prepare and deliver briefings to mid- and senior-level management on laser-related spaceflight safety activities
  • Evaluate incoming data for reasonableness, consistency, and operational impact
  • Remain adaptable to shifting priorities in a real-time operations environment
