About The Position

At Hydro, Inc., a global industrial pump engineering company and the world’s largest independent pump rebuilder, you will be responsible for building precision, mission-critical pump components from raw stock. This full-time role is based at the Denver, CO facility. A typical day involves reviewing work orders, setting up vertical turret lathes or manual engine lathes to machine custom components, interpreting detailed blueprints, and bringing parts into tight tolerance (often within 0.0005 in.). You will also collaborate with engineers and fellow machinists to validate fit and function of the components.

Requirements

  • 5+ years post‑training experience machining LARGE PARTS on manual machines in an industrial setting
  • Completion of a technical or vocational program related to machining
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong shop math; geometry for angles, radii, bolt circles, and complex layouts
  • Knowledge of feed rates and how adjustments affect finish and dimensional control
  • Proven skill setting up jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps
  • Ability to turn pump shafts 3–10 ft using a steady rest while holding 0.0005 in. or better
  • Exceptional attention to detail, manual/finger dexterity, and control precision

  • Journeyman status preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manually set up and machine parts for diverse pump types: impellers, wear rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals
  • Operate and adjust equipment such as vertical/horizontal boring mills, VTLs, manual lathes, and ID/OD grinders for precision cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches to determine tooling, sequences, and machining parameters
  • Check critical dimensions with inspection equipment and record results numerically for quality documentation
  • Evaluate and refine machining procedures to improve efficiency and repeatability
  • Maintain tools, jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps; keep machines in optimal condition
  • Follow Hydro shop safety policies and procedures at all times
  • Collaborate with engineers, shop personnel, and other machinists to diagnose issues and recommend solutions
