Plan and perform a wide variety of setups and machining operations on all machine shop equipment, including engine lathe, vertical turret lathe, radial drill press, spindle drill press, shaper, surface grinder, horizontal and vertical milling machines, where standard methods are not always available. Occasionally uses Work Flow for reference purposes as required. Use all necessary machine attachments, select tools, feeds and speeds according to material and finish requirements. Square up and layout production run or special castings for machining operations to fairly close and close tolerances. Work with a variety of metals such as steel, iron, brass, bronze and aluminum. Layout, machine, fit and assemble jigs and fixtures to facilitate own work. Determine operation sequences, make computations for use of dividing head, angles, tapers, fits and assembly. Check parts for adequate finish allowance. Setups exacting and at times difficult to obtain. Detect defective material or faulty operation. Gauge in accordance with Company standards. Refer unusual conditions to foreman. Perform Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities, including cleaning, inspection, minor lubrication and tightening loose bolts. Administer the 5-S's.
