The Large Casting Processor performs a wide variety of duties throughout the large casting molding and finishing areas. This includes assisting the molder, repairing ladles, and managing the loading and unloading of flasks, bottom boards, and upsets to molding lines. Key tasks involve pouring and shaking out molds, operating automated shake-out and core knockout machines, grinding large castings, and operating shot-blast equipment. The role also requires transporting materials and metal using gas-operated fork trucks or hand trucks, and operating a power sweeper. Grinding responsibilities involve using various hand tools such as air grinders, air chisels, and band saws to remove fins, parting lines, sprues, risers, gates, surface roughness, and other irregularities from castings. The processor is also responsible for placing wheels or abrasive belts on machines and making simple adjustments as needed, as well as patching surface imperfections to meet quality control standards. Any unusual or questionable situations must be referred to proper supervision.
