About The Position

The LANGUAGE Translator / Interpreter acts as a liaison between the school/district and families. He/she takes an active role in providing language translation, both in oral and written form, for the students and families in primary language to/from English across various settings. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Interpret for parent conferences, parent meetings, and Special Education meetings. Translate written and/or classroom materials for parent(s), student(s), and the school and/or district. Translate oral and written communication from both LANGUAGE to English and English to LANGUAGE. Perform intake interviews with parents for new students to the district/school. Assist students and families with registration, enrollment procedures, information regarding health education, immunization requirements and other community services Provide information and answer questions about the school district and the bilingual program. Maintain confidentiality. Carry out any other duties as assigned by the building and/or district administration

Requirements

  • Experience and ability to work with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
  • Fluent in French and English
  • Knowledge of schools and education terminology
  • Good computer skills necessary
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must have flexible schedule and ability to work as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree preferred but not required
  • Experience working with students in a school setting preferred, but not required.
