About The Position

Organization's Summary Statement: Offers technical and administrative assistance to campus Landscape Tech Supervisor or Horticulturist. Physical Demands: Must be able to perform duties effectively in environments heavy with allergens such as pollen, etc. The employee must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and on occasion up to 100 pounds; stand and walk continuously; lift, stoop, and/or bend for extended periods of time; wear and work with the use of personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, etc.). The shift hours are from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Position is Essential and is subject to 24 hour day/7 day week span of operation. This position is not eligible for telework.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class C driver’s license (or equivalent) with fewer than 6 points.
  • Must be licensed by the State of Maryland as a Certified Pesticide Applicator, Categories 3A (Ornamental Plants and Shade Trees-Exterior), 3C (Turf and Lawn Pest Control) and 6 (Right of Way and Weed). If hired without the certification, must be able to sit for the exam and obtain certification within 6 months of employment, and remain medically certified to apply pesticides. This is a condition of employment.
  • Must be a Maryland Certified Professional Fertilizer Applicator. If hired without the certification, must be able to sit for the exam and obtain certification within 6 months of employment. This is a condition of employment.
  • EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in horticulture, agronomy or related field.
  • EXPERIENCE: Two years in landscape construction, agronomy, or landscape maintenance work.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the practices and techniques of landscape construction, agronomy, and/or landscape maintenance; of plant life as applied to ornamental horticulture; of plant materials, planting techniques, erosion control, and pesticides.
  • Working knowledge of landscape design and construction work.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting landscape architectural plans, specifications, proposal forms and estimates; in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment of the trade; in making field investigations.
  • Ability to plan and program assigned projects; to organize and lead the work of assigned personnel; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to prepare comprehensive reports; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from ladders and lifts; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 50 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather and temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
