About The Position

AECOM’s Urbanism + Planning team is seeking a visionary and dynamic Landscape Architecture Design Lead for our Washington DC Metro Studio. The team designs award winning, social infrastructure globally and has a long history of transformative work in the DC area, nationally, and abroad including the recent renovation of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, The Five Points Plazas in Charlotte, NC, the multiphase waterfront in Ningbo, China and the public realm surrounding the Iconic Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge. The primary responsibilities of this new role are to lead the design of high-profile projects and assist with growing AECOM’s urbanism practice through design excellence, business development, thought leadership, project delivery, and staff mentoring. We are seeking an individual who is an industry-recognized leader with a strong set of client relationships and portfolio of work. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in driving business fundamentals that include business development, client management, financial oversight, quality control, project delivery, and effectively conveying innovative design thinking and solutions. In collaboration with the Studio Leadership, the Landscape Architecture Design Lead will: Build client relationships, pre-position for opportunities, and secure a portfolio of work that aligns with growth objectives. Serve as Lead Designer on a range of assignments for both public and private sector clients. Work with staff to lead and deliver projects from inception through to construction while advocating for design excellence and constructability. Contribute to AECOM’s “think and act globally” philosophy by supporting a culture of innovation and collaboration. Proactively focus on team building, and mentor on junior staff.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Landscape Architecture + 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Licensed Landscape Architect.
  • Experience and skills in client interviews and relationship building, writing proposals and driving sales and revenue.
  • Portfolio of work that illustrates design excellence.
  • Experience with industry standards, regulations and emerging technologies in landscape architecture.
  • U.S. Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • U.S. Citizenship required, due to the nature of the work.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 12 years’ experience leading complex landscape architecture projects.
  • Master’s degree in landscape architecture.
  • Licensed Landscape Architect in DC metro area (VA, DC, and or MD).
  • Experience practicing landscape architecture for private sector, municipal and federal clients in the mid-Atlantic.
  • Proven ability to secure significant projects and drive revenue growth.
  • Experience delivering presentations at events and conferences.
  • Experience interfacing with project delivery teams on scope of work development, budget and schedule, and client satisfaction.
  • A strong desire to train, mentor, and develop staff to grow their careers and the business.
