About The Position

Otak is seeking a creative Landscape Designer/Landscape Architect to join our Planning and Landscape Architecture team in Portland, OR. Our portfolio includes parks and trails, landscape restoration, urban placemaking, green infrastructure, and critical facilities. You'll collaborate across disciplines to integrate design with ecology, infrastructure, and the built environment on projects throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. You'll gain exposure working on a diverse mix of project types, geographies, and clients. Receive direct mentorship from seasoned landscape architects, participate in all project phases, and gain support toward licensure and career growth. Each project emphasizes sustainability and environmental stewardship, offering the chance to shape places that endure and enrich daily life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture.
  • 4-8 years of professional experience in landscape architecture.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office; experience with ArcGIS, 3D visualization, and animation software a plus.
  • Experience designing parks and public spaces, streetscapes, plazas and amenity areas, trails, and pedestrian facilities.
  • Familiarity with construction design and detailing.
  • Knowledge of native plant palettes and wetland/streambank planting design.
  • Progress toward licensure; professional registration a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support Otak's Planning and Landscape Architecture practice on research, design, and planning tasks focused on ecological function, enhanced connectivity, community engagement, and human wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with Water Resources Engineering teams on sustainable stormwater systems, stream and wetland restoration, and water access sites.
  • Partner with Architects and Civil Engineers on mixed-use projects, affordable housing, streetscapes, and public open space.
  • Support project work on infrastructure and visitor facilities at parks and public lands.
  • Create design sketches, graphics, and visualizations.
  • Facilitate public engagement and community collaboration.
  • Assist project managers with project administration, client contact, and communications.
  • Work independently and in team environments to develop landscape solutions for complex sites through all design phases.
  • Provide construction documentation, administration support, and field oversight.
