About The Position

All camps share a common purpose: creating an environment where Young Life staff bring Christ to life by creatively presenting the complete gospel of Jesus Christ. Speaking clearly from the Scriptures, camp speakers introduce kids to the person of Christ, the nature of humanity, the work of Christ on the cross, the hope of the resurrection and the opportunity for reconciliation with God. Young Life requires all employees to sign a Statement of Faith. We recommend you read this statement before applying for any position. This job is located at the Malibu Landing in Egmont, BC. Egmont is a small tourist-driven seasonal community which includes several resorts, churches, schools, fishing destinations, hiking and outdoor adventure spaces. All amenities including grocery and gas within 30 minute drive. The Malibu Landing is the hub for all guest transportation and logistical support to and from Malibu Club. Each summer, thousands of campers and guests will arrive at the Landing and depart for Malibu on the Princess and water taxis. This location is staffed year-round by Malibu Landing employees and provides a link between Malibu Club staff and community and the outside world. This job posting is for the facilities management and upkeep of the Young Life-owned buildings including garage space, offices, warehouse space and apartments and surrounding landscaping. Scope of work includes light mechanical duties, carpentry, landscaping, shipping/receiving and forklift operations. Seasonal duties may include managing incoming and outgoing vehicle traffic and departing camper groups. Expanded duties may also include boat driving, boat maintenance and upkeep and dock work and repair.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Ability and willingness to obtain certifications.
Ability to organize and supervise people and tasks
General knowledge of multiple plant systems
Some experience in most of the construction trades
Good attitude and willingness to learn
Must have a positive, flexible attitude
Physically able to do the work
Staff must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff.
All staff members are expected to represent Young Life positively and professionally within the community and be able to work with and minister to the volunteer high school and college-age young people who attend our camp.

Responsibilities

Offer leadership and direction to those workers assigned to you.
Supervise staff whom the site and facilities superintendent may assign to you, both summer and winter. This includes full and part-time camping staff, in addition to maintenance summer staff, work crew, volunteers and other people who may be assisting with a maintenance or project function on the property.
At all times, maintain a pleasant, positive attitude toward staff and others involved in the program, conveying the idea of maximum service consistent with the capabilities of the property and equipment.
Work closely with the work crew and summer staff bosses in making the work experience a positive time of personal growth for the individuals that have volunteered their time at the property.
Maintain operating records as required by the site and facilities superintendent.
Possess a basic knowledge of hand tools and some power tools.
Responsible for maintaining and operating two to three specific equipment or areas as designated by the site and facilities superintendent.
Operate and maintain camp property in a manner consistent with the instructions received from the site and facilities superintendent and the camping manager.
Work toward the specific implementation of individual camping goals as outlined yearly.
Work closely with the site and facilities superintendent, guest services coordinator and assigned staff on all matters involving use of the property for the program.
Cooperate with all other departments on the property to operate as a team and produce a well functioning body.
Relate to the local community in a manner best suited to carry out the public relations policy of Young Life as presented by the camping manager.
