Wages The Caterpillar Landfill Technician's starting wage will depend on experience and education. $33.80-$41.50 Responsibilities The Caterpillar Landfill Technician is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing Caterpillar heavy equipment used in landfill operations. This role supports Orange County landfill facilities (San Juan Capistrano, Irvine and Brea) by ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. Work is performed on-site at landfill locations and may include field service assignments. Requirements

  • One-year certificate or Associates degree from a community college or technical school
  • Two to four years mechanical experience or equivalent education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair Caterpillar heavy equipment, including bulldozers, compactors, loaders, and excavators
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance such as oil changes, fluid services, and system inspections
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble machine components according to Caterpillar standards
  • Use Caterpillar diagnostic tools, manuals, and software to identify and resolve equipment issues
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field service repairs at landfill sites
  • Accurately document repairs, parts usage, and labor hours
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures while working in landfill environments
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and site personnel
