About The Position

Install and configure network hardware and software to support instructional and administrative purposes with data, voice and video networks; respond to user requests for assistance and error correction and provide technical support; install, maintain, update, backup and recovery of servers and server software; maintain inventory for all technology hardware and software; provide daily network administration of all network equipment (switches, routers, hubs, Wi-Fi, servers, printers).

  • Perform network management activities including but not limited to: DNS, DHCP, disk space allocation, server backup and restores, wireless networking.
  • Plan and lay out installation and repair work.
  • Maintain records related to work performed.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Lift heavy objects.
  • Work with the Chief Information Officer.
  • Provide assistance, information and technical expertise to faculty, administrators, and students regarding safe and proper operation, care and maintenance of computerized equipment.
  • Maintain records of computer and network repairs, materials used, moving and installation activities and work orders; maintain records of maintenance supplies used.
  • Any combination equivalent to: One year college-level course work and/or computer science and/or one year technical school work in computers and one year experience troubleshooting, repairing and servicing computers and related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily network administration of all network switches, routers, Wi-Fi controllers, printers, telephones, cabling, etc. throughout the district, interacting with network vendors for solutions when needed.
  • Perform network software installation, upgrades and enhancements to maintain system stability and reliability.
  • Administer network printing installation and troubleshooting for print server based and IP based printing.
  • Administer user accounts via Active Directory and other domain related systems for approximately 7,000 users.
  • Provide day-to-day administration for servers, including backups and operating system updates (application of service packs, hotfixes, etc.), efficiently minimizing downtime, and design and maintain disaster recovery plans, conducting tests annually.
  • Assists with content filtering, intrusion prevention, and Kentucky Department of Education firewall issues.
  • Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. completed and pending work orders, equipment inventory, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information and/or providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail.
  • Diagnose hardware and software problems (end-user hardware), remotely and on-site.
  • Coordinates repair work schedules with school and district office personnel for the purpose of minimizing disruption of services and/or inconvenience.
  • Provide training to school personnel on use of district networks and various capabilities of software used within each school.
  • Move computers, telephone equipment, switches, routers, controllers, interactive classroom equipment, etc. from one location to another.
  • Set up and test new computer, telephone equipment, switches, routers, controllers, interactive classroom equipment, etc.
  • Use diagnostic equipment.
  • Work closely with district technology team members to provide quality service to all users.
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations by interacting effectively with and demonstrating respect for the views, rights and contributions of others.
  • Analyzes potential problems and takes corrective action as approved by the Chief Information Officer.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Information Officer.
