About The Position

The Lactation Consultant is a member of the Mother/Baby nursing team and is responsible for educating and supporting mothers who plan to breastfeed, monitoring of infants at risk for delayed breastfeeding, and assisting the mother/infant pair with feeding and bonding. Responsibilities include staff education, assisting with departmental policy and procedure development and evaluation, monitoring outcomes related to breast-feeding and infant nutrition and participation in continuing education and professional development activities. As a clinical nurse, this individual spends majority of his/her time (> 50%) coordinating, ensuring and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through: provision of nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admission, transfer and discharge activities; provision of patient and family-centered education; care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable, etc.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a nursing school with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Has a minimum of 2 years nursing related experience.
  • Current RN licensure to work in Kentucky.
  • CLC required, IBCLC preferred and if applicant does not currently have IBCLC, then will work to gain IBCLC certification within three (3) years of hire date.
  • Must obtain BLS within 30 days of hire.
  • Adequate hours in lactation education to sit for Lactation Certification Exam IBCLC.
