Scheduling would include the workers' preferences as well as business needs. What you’ll do: As an Airport Laborer, you would perform entry-level facilities and grounds manual work at the Airport while learning and developing skills within the Airport operations team. May perform the following tasks depending upon the assigned division: carry, load and unload materials and equipment; dig, shovel and rake grounds; clean work sites, and drains; mow lawns, weed trimming, landscaping duties, irrigation, and mowing equipment repairs; airfield movement, general facility repairs, safety and rescue equipment maintenance, operate a two-way radio; performs other routine unskilled work as assigned. What you'll need: A positive attitude and strong work ethic. Ability to perform hands on, detailed, work that represents Oakland County's commitment to quality. The ability to take ownership of the tasks assigned while adhering to the airport policies and standards. A strong interest in working directly within an active airfield where you'll gain first hand knowledge of the details associated with running a complex transportation system. Must be alert to hazards and follow department safety and emergency procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • May be required to provide safety shoes.
  • Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Ability to communicate, and to perform entry-level unskilled manual work.

Responsibilities

  • Performs entry-level grounds keeping duties to maintain the airport grounds.
  • Removes or relocates debris, trash, trees, brush, and brushes as directed.
  • Operates commercial lawn mower, weed trimmer and other landscaping equipment, and two-way radio.
  • Assists Airport Maintenance & Rescue Specialists with minor repairs such as lights, roof, vehicles, equipment and building maintenance.
