Job Summary The Laborer is an entry level position that is responsible for supporting the safety department within the shipyard for the winter work season. This position runs from January to the end of March early April. The right candidate will show a high sense of safety awareness, and preferably has shown safety demonstration in previous positions .

Requirements

  • Knowledge in standard practices in comparable manufacturing environments
  • Follows directions and procedures under limited supervision
  • Conducts basic problem-solving skills under supervision
  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
  • Detail oriented and alert at all times to ensure safety
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisor
  • Knowledge in the use of general hand tools such as hammers, shovels, tape measures, grinders, etc.
  • Ability to learn new duties and assignments through on-the-job training
  • Ability to wear a respirator, ear plugs and additional PPE for an extended period of time
  • High School Diploma or GE required
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen
  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • Must be able to report to a variety of locations, with the main location being at Fraser Shipyards
  • Position requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, overhead work, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Must be able to work in tight, confined spaces, such as accessing manholes, and awkward positions for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to conduct inside and outside work in all temperatures.
  • Use of manufacturing equipment.
  • Work in environment where harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, gases, etc. might be present and the use of a respirator may be required.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions/areas that at times are not environmentally controlled.
  • Able to move/lift/pull/push 50 lbs.
  • Applicants are required to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen prior to employment start.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various physical duties as assigned
  • Maintains all safety standards
  • Performs some specialized tasks which may require on-the-job training
  • Effectively using heavy and light equipment, depending on the jobsite/assignment
  • Maintains decontamination trailers
  • Moving tools, safety equipment, or other material as directed
  • Preservative coating removal and cleanup
  • Assist with air monitoring and other environmental tasks
  • Other safety tasks as assigned by the Safety Lead
  • May also support manufacturing laborer when required
