About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES Performs and submits accurate results on specimens for laboratory analysis for the purpose of aiding the physician in diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of patients to include discrimination between closely similar items and correction by use of preset guidelines. Performs simple maintenance of instruments. Recognizes unusual results and/or abnormalities and takes prompt and appropriate action to assure the accuracy and validity of test results. Notifies the supervisor at points where no preset criteria for decision making are available. Assumes accountability for the dissemination of patient information to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of patients. Conducts oneself as a professional. Performs assigned duties accurately and rapidly EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Minimum of one year technical experience in the area of specific clinical laboratory department and: Associates degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology OR Education and training equivalent to an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology (letter of equivalency must be supported by an accrediting agency) OR High school graduate or equivalent AND successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist OR Medical Laboratory Science Student within their last 6 months of graduation from an accredited clinical training program. Approval documentation must be received from the Medical Laboratory Science Program indicating that they have successfully completed the clinical rotation in the area they will be working LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is required OR Certification in Specialty for area of laboratory employment required without a Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) certification. A specialist certification limits qualification to the area of specialization only Must maintain certification status in compliance with specifications for continuing education required by the certification agency

Requirements
