About The Position

Laboratory Technician is responsible for sample collection and testing, maintaining quality control requirements for all laboratory tests performed. Employees will work in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions throughout the plant. Employees are expected to adhere to all safety regulations and wear personal protective equipment. This is a rotating shift job. You will shape the future of the Fernandina Plant by: Must be able to learn the detailed procedures of laboratory testing, following the written test methods consistently to produce repeatable test results. This job works with a variety of instruments such as an analytical balance, pH meter, titrator, brightness meter, pulp extractor, sheet former, oven, ash furnace, centrifuge, microscope and others. Ability to work well with others both in the laboratory and in Pulp Plant operations. Directly communicating with the Pulp Plant operators to determine proper timing of sampling. Taking direction on retest requirements from the Quality Administrator. Ability to carry out multiple tasks simultaneously. The Technician performs ten different lab test procedures. Ability to follow multiple sampling and testing schedules based on the pulp grade being manufactured. Must record all data on worksheets and the computer system verifying that all entries are correct and properly displayed. Responsible for collecting environmental samples and running some environmental tests and other duties, such as maintaining the pulp library, stocking chemicals and lab supplies, packaging and shipping items and general department housekeeping. Other duties as assigned dependent upon business needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Pass CareerSource Testing requirement
  • At least two (2) years of industrial or related experience
  • Aptitude to learn complex processes, work with computers & instrumentation equipment
  • Able to work rotating shifts including holidays and weekends
  • Pass drug screen, physical exam, and background check
  • Be self-directed with strong work ethic
  • Understand and adhere to all Safety Rules of the Laboratory and the Plant
  • Maintain good attendance
  • EOE/Vet/Disability
