About The Position

The incumbent serves as the primary building coordinator for the department’s research facility and provides support for all departmental research operations. This position is responsible for facilitating faculty research by managing the procurement of supplies and equipment, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, and overseeing the effective operation and maintenance of research facilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
  • This is a non-research Laboratory Technician position focused solely on operational and technical support.
  • This position requires a background check.
  • In conjunction with the University's policy, this position may also require a credit check.
  • The holder of this position is designated as a “Responsible Employee” pursuant to their role under Title IX. Therefore, the incumbent must promptly report allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual violence, and child sexual abuse by or against any student, employee, contractor, or visitor to the University’s Title IX Administrator or any divisional Title IX Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and manage the procurement process for research supplies and equipment, including obtaining competitive quotes and providing regular order status updates to faculty.
  • Manage procurement card (p-card) transactions and complete timely monthly reconciliations in accordance with university policy.
  • Assist in monitoring and managing budgets related to internal research grants, faculty start-up funds, and foundation accounts.
  • Prepare and distribute detailed monthly spending analyses for research faculty.
  • Maintain research equipment and service contracts, coordinate repairs and service calls as necessary.
  • Support the maintenance and operational oversight of departmental research facilities, including laboratories, the vivarium (animal research facility), and greenhouse.
  • Coordinate and track laboratory safety training for faculty, staff, and students; maintain accurate documentation to ensure compliance with university, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Conduct and facilitate safety and inventory inspections to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with the organization, setup, and preparation of research laboratory spaces.
  • Serve as the designated contact for emergency equipment failures in the Biology Building.
  • During declared campus emergencies, perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus site or place of residence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Office Manager and/or Department Chair.
